History and Philosophy

Since we started out in 1993, our philosophy has been simple – to develop long term relationships and repeat business by giving good advice to our clients, working closely with them as business partners. We recognise that we can only achieve this by having the depth of knowledge and experience to add value, the flexibility and services to complement our clients’ skills and resources and, of course, by providing an exceptional level of service.

Many of our clients have been with us since we started. For one, for example, a top 10 Fortune 100 company, we have recruited over 400 senior management and executive hires. The current leadership teams of many of our long-standing clients are made up of the high potential candidates that we introduced in our early years; it has been a privilege to watch those individuals’ development and now to work for them as clients.

We only handle positions where we are confident that we will be successful. Our open, transparent style and long-term view are both fundamental in influencing the advice we give to our clients. Honesty, integrity and trust are important to us and the foundation of our success. We also aim to create a working environment which actively encourages the highest levels of service, professionalism and pride in our work. We do not pay our staff commission, but reward our team based upon the long term success of the business and on building enduring relationships with our clients.

We are, and intend to remain, a niche player, wholly-owned and independent of outside interests. In this way we retain control over our business and ensure that we can minimise the potential for conflicts of interest. Our independence also allows us to make ethical choices about our clients and business partners. Our aim is to work with a small number of companies that we enjoy working with and admire, typically one or two of the leading companies in any industry sector.

By focusing on very specific sections of the market, we believe we offer a better, more efficient service than generalist search firms.

For over 20 years we have specialized in identifying, assessing and on-boarding exceptional international finance talent typically at CFO or CFO -1 level for commercial companies

We have experience of all areas of finance including financial reporting and accounting, business planning and analysis, tax, treasury, corporate finance, M&A, internal audit and, where it reports into finance, strategy.

Board appointments for PE-backed SMEs

Ambitious, growth-hungry SMEs also need exceptional talent. We leverage our extensive experience of recruiting for major corporates to work with rapidly-growing PE-backed SMEs seeking individuals who can help them achieve a superior IRR and a successful exit. A fast-growing area of our business, we specialise in recruiting non-execs, CEOs and executive directors across all business functions.

By resisting the temptation to stray into other areas, we have built up detailed knowledge and experience of our niche market as well as an extensive database of contacts, enabling us to provide specialist, valuable and constructive advice to both clients and candidates and to conduct global searches quickly and effectively generating a very high proportion of repeat business. Our client base is not large, but is made up of some of the biggest, best known and most admired companies in the world, as well as a small number of exceptional entrepreneurial SMEs. In each case the common theme is the desire to find and attract the absolute best.

We work across all industry sectors but to avoid off-limits issues or conflicts of interest and to be sure that we can search effectively, carefully limit the number of firms we work with in any area.

We know our clients extremely well and are proud that many of them have been with us since our earliest days – for one of them, a top 10 Fortune 100 company, we have completed over 350 high-calibre hires throughout the world. We have retained our clients by building relationships which are founded on trust, confidence, and successful delivery. We have an exceptionally high repeat business ratio and, in addition, many candidates whom we have successfully introduced turn to us for advice when they need to recruit – evidence of their trust and confidence in our service.

International Coverage

Alderwick Consulting’s clients vary in size from some of the biggest, best known and most admired companies in the world to exceptional entrepreneurial SMEs. What they have in common is that they are typically looking for the highest calibre, most mobile candidates, people who could be working anywhere in the world.

We therefore search for candidates internationally and are connected to global research providers spanning Europe, North America, Latin America, the Middle East, India and the Far East. We have successfully handled searches in many international locations.
